Dell will launch a 10-inch Windows 7-based tablet for business users later this year, aimed primarily at "vertical" markets such as health care, education and the financial sector, the company has announced.
Dell is hedging its bets, however. It will also offer 10-inch tablets based on Google's Android OS, said Steve Lalla, head ofDell's business client division.
He spoke at an event in San Francisco where Dell launched a major refresh of all its PC, laptop and workstation products. He called it "the largest commercial client refresh in the history of Dell".
The new products included the Latitude XT3, an update to Dell's existing XT2 convertible tablet. It's not a true tablet like theiPad, but rather a laptop with a touchscreen that swivels around and folds over the keyboard. The new model has a larger, 13-inch screen and a newer Intel processor.
The Windows 7 tablet coming later this year will be a true tablet, though Dell has some work to do before it's ready for market. The device Lalla held aloft on Tuesday was a mock-up with a fake screen.
"It's a preview, we don't have a working model to show," he said in an interview later. But he added that Dell may release the product "much sooner" than the end of the year.
will this be the much needed competitor of the ipad? let me know what you think in the comments below :)
I feel totally satisfied with my laptop. I don't feel the need for a tablet, but if I were interested in one, the laptop with the swivel screen that folds over the keyboard sounds perfect.
ReplyDeleteIm happy with my laptop too, cant see the point in tablets atm until they get a lot better
ReplyDeleteAs long as apple makes something, some one needs to make a cheaper, albeit less versatile, version of it. Personally i just want colleges to stop gouging students and make ebook versions of everything to put on a tablet. 70 lbs of books and 700 bucks is a bit ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteSeems like everytime Apple comes out with a product someone comes out with a cheaper less quality item in comparison
ReplyDeleteno need for it myself. never wanted a tablet really.
ReplyDeleteLike others have said, I have a laptop, don't really see the need for a tablet, however it is pretty cool regardless.
ReplyDeletei was thinking to buy one"wacom"use it to draw by it in photoshop.support
ReplyDeleteTablet is useless to me
ReplyDeletesome sort of a Ipad?
ReplyDeletewhateeeeeevs
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't mind getting one. Although it won't replace my desktop, it'll still be a useful tool for me when I'm away from my computer or when I'm not home.
ReplyDeleteI had a Dell time ago and it was a good computer. I suppose tablet will be so good too.
ReplyDeleteThat is sweeet!! Although I'm not a big dell fan.. Its still cool!
